Majority of the roofs in Las Vegas are a tile roof system. If you are experiencing a roof leak on your tile roof home, most homeowners are under the impression that there are broken tile on the roof. However, the tile on the roof is not what prevents water from coming inside the home. There is a felt underlayment underneath the tile that protects your home from water intrusion. The felt starts to deteriorate after approximately 15-25 years. Once that felt starts to deteriorate you will experience leaks, potentially in multiple parts of your home.
There are a few different options when talking about fixing a roof leak on a tile home. First, you can just fix the leak area measuring a small section from the ridge down to the rake. Second, you can do that entire section of the roof, whether that be one whole side of the roof, the front or back side, or from hip to ridge to rake depending on the shape of your roof. Third, if you have multiple roof leaks the best option may be to have the entire underlayment replaced. In that case, we stack the tile on the roof, remove the existing underlayment, install 2 layers of 30 lb felt, and reinstall the tile to completion. This may be your best and most cost efficient option rather than doing different sections at different times.
The smaller repair options, depending on the size, usually take 1-2 days to complete. The entire underlayment replacement, again depending on the size, usually takes between 3-5 days to complete. If you are on a budget, the first and second options are usually the best for you. However, if you have a means to opt for the entire underlayment replacement, we usually recommend having that due to the fact you will have a warranty on your whole roof instead of one section.
